Your Online Dating Profile is an Advertisement About You!

owl winkingA question that I receive very often is “how do I make a good online dating profile?”  First, I would like to emphasis you are not writing a book, you must tell the truth about everything and have current photos.  Look at your profile as a little advertisement about you.  Keeping in mind you are competing in a market that all the other people doing the same type of ad.  You want your ad to stand out as different from all the rest.  It is a fact that most people scroll through all the photos.  The first sentence must catch their attention so they decide to read more.  Try doing something a little different, something that will catch the proper type of person’s attention!

“Romantic men seem to be extinct. If you’re extinct, contact me.”

How many profiles do you read that start out saying how great the person is?  I’m sure you have seen that frequently in all the other profiles of women trying to get your attention. I believe actions speak much louder, so why bother? I think I shall do something different and start with bad stuff: I speak my mind, and I can be impulsive and restless at times. I have eclectic taste in everything I do. Many days I spend too much time working, I need someone to take me away … There is something about the water and being outside that I find magical. Can you relate? I have little patience for those who hide their emotions and will not speak their mind.  I never know what they are thinking or planning.  I prefer to know where I stand and what people think of me (good or bad) and I respect a person for letting me know. How about you? What irritated you today? Was there anything that gave you true joy and pleasure?

It would be nice to meet a new friend and have coffee or some food at an outdoor restaurant. I don’t think it matters what we do on our first meet and greet, as long as we have the time and opportunity to really get to know one another. I am a big fan of simplicity, so a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate would be fine. Chemistry is something that you will know when you meet someone, not something you have with the endless texts and e-mails.

Do you still enjoy laughing, smiling or dancing in the rain? Do you still enjoy our wonderful world and find it an interesting place to explore? Can you take a joke and understand that sarcasm is a spice of life. Can you enjoy a nice rainy day? If you are a self-motivated person, and are generally happy. The rest is negotiable.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my profile, but I am not interested in a hook up of any kind, and I will only respond to men who are local, single (separated is not single), could not have attended the same school as my children, and who have a photo.

If you are genuine, loving, caring and fun person to be around, that doesn’t sweat the small stuff in life, please message me.

Recently I saw one man’s profile that caught my attention and his first sentence was “I really need a ladies point of view!  In order to make my profile better, tell me what you find lacking or what was good about it…”  He is very smart to ask a woman what she thinks.  I am sure that sentence gets a lot of people to read his profile and probably respond to him.

If you are stepping into the online dating world or have been there for a while take time to make your profile stand out from the crowd.  Remember only current photos (2 years or less) with you in them.  We all like to see a pretty dating-again-after-divorce-how-soonsunset but they are there to see you not the sun setting.  They can go outside and watch the sun go down.   If you are an animal lover it is fine to have photos of your pet making sure you are in the photo with them.  Tell the truth about everything.  Hiding the truth will only set you up to not have a second date or you might not get the first one.  A few people have admitted to checking the person out before they went to the table.  Upon seeing the “date” was different than presented online these people admitted they then sent a text stating they would not be able to make it for the date and left.  The common view was if they lied about their appearance what did they say that was true.   Next, keep it short only a few paragraphs making sure to ask a question or two that will show what kind of person you are. Plus this gives them something to say when they respond to your profile.  Have a first sentence that will make you stand out from the rest of the people on the dating site!
