DIY Sore Throat Buster




I find there are 2 types of sore throat: real sore throat (as in the virus is attacking your throat) and sore throat caused by post nasal drip irritation. If you have a virus you need to go to the doctor and be checked.  If it is the second type, before you do anything else, go have a double gargle according to my Aunt Betty , I have to admit a double gargle really does help and here is how you do it. First gargle with peroxide for about one minute. Make sure to spit all the peroxide out and do not swallow any. Now use warm salt water with a bit of baking soda. I’ve heard people prefer lemon juice and cayenne pepper. These are natural ingredients; it can’t hurt to try them both, and see which works best for you. Make sure to have plenty of rest, drink lots of water/tea, Vitamin C (I have found some I really like and they are great Emergen C) and zinc or zinc lozenges.

OJ and pineapple smoothie are my next sore throat buster. Smoothies have only pineapple, orange juice and ice. NEVER add yogurt/ice cream/milk; dairy increases the mucus causing your sore throat to get worse.

If you have a machine to make juice, this two ingredient juice will kick a cold and sore throat really quick. The juice is made of carrots and red peppers. Vitamin C is essential if you’re trying get rid of a cold and this juice has an unbelievable amount. This juice will also help your body absorb iron.


1 tsp. Turmeric

1 tsp. Cinnamon

½ tsp. Ginger

½ tsp. Cayenne Pepper

1 tsp. Fresh Minced Garlic

2 Tbsp. Lemon Juice

1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar

5 Tbsp. Honey

Dissolve turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne and ginger in lemon and vinegar then add honey and crushed garlic. Mix together all ingredients very well. I keep mine in a mason jar; you can take 1 Tbsp. as needed for cough and sore throat.

NOTE: This will keep up to 6 months refrigerated only without the garlic. Make this ahead when you are feeling well and add the garlic as it is needed.
